It seems like a distant memory now, however a fond memory none the less. On the 3rd December The OMGS met at Bush Hill Park Golf Club to celebrate the coming of Christmas and to wrap up another wonderful years golf. A magnificent turnout of 35 players, old and new, meant that the bar staff were rushed off there feet from noon till night.
On the course long service OMGS member Ian Fusedale shot a round of 38 and took home the Reg Davis Trophy. Richards Blanchflower, also with a score of 38 had to accept second place as the count back reveals 1 extra shot on the front 9. (Rules provided and upheld by Mr Ray). However, no one left empty handed as the “Secret Santa” draw provided gifts for all.
After a wonderful traditional Christmas roast Captain Steve Philips summed up the day and saluted the return of some of the OMGS “old boys”. A warm welcome was extended to guests along with and invitation to join the society in 2005 at the following events: -
News from the Ground Staff…
Pitches holding up really well so I will be opening talks with the Parks dept to plan the works for this year.
The only really big problem is that the Council have now written to us saying that they cannot extend the License over the pitches to match our new longer lease on the clubhouse as they are looking into the situation throughout the Borough.
We know that Cockfosters Cricket Club are in the same position but despite my telephone calls and emails to the club nobody has yet spoken to me.
If anybody has any links with them please tell them to get in touch.
Similarly, if anybody can think of any other club who lease their ground from the Council then get me a contact please.
This could be serious. It must be linked with the decline in teams playing on Council pitches, particularly Saturday football where there are so many unused pitches at the Playing Fields and Firs Farm.
